Dear Driftwood Park Public School Families,

The count down is on and we are looking forward to having your children return to Driftwood. As a reminder schooling information continues to change very quickly it is best to continue to check the following websites for the latest updates:

www.wrdsb.ca

www.dpk.wrdsb.ca

Where do I meet my teacher on the first day of school?

Kindergarten classes will be meeting outside on the tarmac closest to the playground and portapack structure. Kindergarten teams will be outside with class lists and will be able to assist you to find your proper spot.

Primary classes will be meeting outside on the tarmac close to the gymnasium wall between the portapack and gymnasium wall. Our primary staff will be outside with class lists and will be able to assist you in finding your class.

Junior classes will be meeting outside on the tarmac close to the gymnasium on the parking lot side of the school. All junior staff will be outside with class lists and will be able to assist you to find your class.

When you arrive on site we are still wearing masks outside while on the property while cohorts are mixed. So like last year masks will be worn outside at the start of the school day and at the end of the school day. Please ensure that you are wearing and providing physical distancing from one another. We do appreciate your cooperation with this process.

Class Lists and School Day Access

To comply with privacy legislation, class lists will no longer be posted on the outside windows or doors of your child’s school. At your convenience starting September 4 and throughout the weekend, you will be able to determine your child’s homeroom teacher using School-Day

http://www.school-day.com/

When you log into your account, click “Schools and Groups” on the blue left hand side menu, then click “Your Classes.” This will show the classes and groups your child is linked to within our school.

Step 1. Log into School-Day (www.school-day.com/) and click on the “All Students” drop-down box, to show your child’s name.

Step 2. Once you have selected your child’s name, click “Schools and Groups” in the blue left-hand menu, then select “Your Classes” from the pop-out menu.

Step 3. You will now be able to see the homeroom classroom that your child has been placed in. Individual schools will be sending out further information about the teachers for each classroom.

If you have not signed up for School-Day instructions are available on our website

Daily Confirmation of Screening

At the forefront of all we do, is the health and safety and well-being of all of our students and staff. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we work through these uncharted territories. Let’s all work as a community to ensure everyone’s safety. If your child is feeling ill (please refer to the Daily Screening Student Checklist in the Guide for Families), please keep your child at home so that we can continue to keep everyone safe. Here is the link:

As part of enhanced safety measures for the return to in-person learning for students across Ontario, the Ministry of Education has directed school boards to verify the daily screening of all students, staff and essential visitors, for the first two weeks of school (September 7 to 17).

While we have always had the expectation that students self-screen before coming to school, we have developed additional measures to support the verification process.

Screening Verification for Elementary Students

Every day, we are asking families to complete the Ontario COVID-19 School Screener for each elementary student in the household. For those without access to the website, the PDF version is available here. This PDF version is available in several languages.

Complete the WRDSB Student Screening Confirmation Form for each elementary student in the household.

Staff will confirm that the WRDSB Student Screening Confirmation Form is complete and/or provide a paper copy for the family to complete if needed. The completed form will remain with the student.

We want you to know that we have the safety of your child and our community at the front of our minds. We appreciate your cooperation and patience as we enter into our second year of COVID and schooling.

We look forward to working with you and your child(ren) again this year. We truly appreciate all of your support and cooperation.

Take care,
